Mended Hearts Beating
Mended Hearts Beating is a group whose members were either born with a heart defect or have a child that was born with one. Their mission is to raise awareness of the number one birth defect, congenital heart disease. This identity evolved into a multifaceted symbol – the safety pin can be literally taken as an item that holds things together, but on closer inspection, the heart in the middle of the pin pushes it into a meaning much greater—the vulnerability of the babies who suffer from heart defects. At a second glance you might see a little girl representing a healthy or “mended child” holding a ball and lastly a caregiver with stethoscope representing the research and preventative action.
